The KYC Youth Sailing Team - Opti is perfect for young sailors who are excited to take their skills to the next level. Designed for those with a solid foundation in sailing, this program introduces the fundamentals of racing in Optimist dinghies—focusing on boat speed, control, and confidence on the course.

Through a combination of on-water training, fun drills, and regatta experiences, sailors will develop independence, sportsmanship, and sailing skills in a supportive, team-based environment.

Led by passionate and experienced coaches, the Opti Team helps young athletes grow both as sailors and teammates—building a love for the sport that lasts well beyond the finish line.

Program Highlights

• Introduction to racing skills: starting, mark roundings, and simple strategy

For sailors ready to go beyond the basics, the KYC Doublehanded Youth Sailing Team offers the perfect next step. Geared towards teens with some sailing experience, this program introduces participants to the exciting world of sailboat racing—while continuing to build advanced boat handling and teamwork skills in double-handed dinghies, the C420 or RS Feva.

Led by experienced coaches, the Sailing Team blends on-water training, land-based theory, and regatta participation in a dynamic and supportive environment. This team trains in a supportive and high-energy environment that balances friendly competition with strong mentorship and fun. 

Whether you're aiming to race locally, build on your sailing experience from CANSail courses, or just want to sail faster and smarter, this program is built to help you grow.

Designed for sailors who want to build speed, sharpen tactics, and experience the thrill of competition, this program brings together adults in a fun, supportive environment focused on learning and performance.

Sailing in double-handed 420s, participants will train alongside experienced instructors and fellow sailors to improve boat handling, communication, and race strategy—then put their skills to the test in friendly club regattas and race nights.

If you’re looking to build confidence, challenge yourself, and connect with the KYC community on and off the water—this is your fleet.

Solo sailing

If you're ready to take the tiller solo and test your skills on the race course, KYC’s Adult Laser Racing Program is the place to be. Perfect for recent CANSail grads or experienced sailors looking to rediscover their racing edge, this program focuses on singlehanded racing in a supportive and spirited environment.

Sailors will train in club Lasers (ILCAs), working on boat speed, balance, tactical decision-making, and racing rules. Whether you're chasing your first clean start or just want to improve boat handling in a performance setting, this program is tailored to help adult sailors build skill, independence, and confidence on the water.
