KYC CO-OP GEAR GUIDE

Inform the club manager of all new damage done to the equipment as soon as you can.

A Co-op member signing out a boat or other watercraft is the skipper of that craft and is responsible for and has authority over the actions of their crew.

All equipment should be rinsed with fresh water, taking care that there is no sand remaining. Once rinsed, lifejackets should be hung to dry in the appropriate locations.

Use your own Lifejacket. Club PFD are intended for lesson sessions use. Transport Canada has a guide for choosing a PFD: https://tc.canada.ca/en/marine-transportation/getting-started-safe-boating/choosing-lifejackets-personal-flotation-devices-pfds

Put gear back in its designated storage location, in the same or better condition than when it was taken out.

All equipment and other co-op equipment which has been left out should be returned to its appropriate location.

Fix any issues with the gear within your expertise immediately, or, if you don’t know how, , report it to the club manager.

Put paddles in the Paddle lockers with the paddles standing upright, making sure they are not falling out of the lockers.

The blade of the paddles should never touch the ground. Paddles should never be dropped, kicked, stepped on, etc

The stern or blades of any boat should never touch the ground. When you are draining the boats, make sure there is something underneath to cushion them.

The boats and boards should never be dragged on the ground, except for the kayaks with wheels. Concrete can be incredibly damaging to the bottom of the boats, especially the more delicate paddleboards and fibreglass sailboats.

The fins of the paddleboards and the rudder and daggerboard of the sail boats can never touch the ground. Exercise caution when launching and landing so that the fins and blades never touch the ground.
