KYC hosts 6m Oceana Cup Sept 9-10
Published on 9/3/2017
Fellow KYC Members,
The Kitsilano Yacht Club is pleased to be hosting the Oceana Cup Regatta over the weekend of
September 9 – 10, 2017
.
This is a one-design sailing regatta for the International 6 Metre class, which forms a part of their World Championship series that will be held in Vancouver this month.

KYC enjoys its reputation as an excellent regatta host, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to be part of this international event, and to welcome the participant crews to Vancouver.
It will be a very busy weekend for KYC, starting with a seminar on the Racing Rules of Sailing, to be held at our clubhouse at
7:30 pm
,
Friday, September 8
.
KYC members are invited to join the International 6 Metre regatta crews at this seminar, for a tune-up of their own knowledge of the racing rules. Registration for the seminar will be held between
5:30 pm and 7:30 pm
, Friday, September 8.
Although the regatta crews will be mooring at dock space around the Vancouver Maritime Museum and the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, we expect that KYC facilities will be very busy throughout the weekend, particularly on the
Saturday
and
Sunday
afternoons and evenings.
The club is expecting something on the order of 100 guests for the regatta dinner on
Saturday, September 9
, and the prize-giving for the event will take place between
3:00 pm and 8:00 pm
on
Sunday, September 10
.
The International 6 Metre class has been an important part of sailing history for over 100 years, and the boats were an Olympic class from 1908 to 1952.

KYC has a number of longstanding members who have been very involved with the 6 Metre class and the preparation for their World Championships this year.
These include Past Vice Commodore Johanne Berube and Cynthia Des Brisay, who will be sailing on “Llanoria” US 83, and Past Commodore Mathew Henley along with new KYC member Nigel Ashman, who will be sailing on “Starwagon” KC 79. Past Commodore Charles Hanson, Jim Fergusson and Nancii Bernard are also involved in organizing the Oceana Cup.
We know they will have an excellent regatta, thanks to the support of the KYC membership, staff, and committed volunteers, and we wish them all the best of luck.
